Look at this stuff, Isn't it neat....
The more I thought about the last post about sunscreen, it made me think about the SNL skit with Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer where they announce to their listeners that they are talking about a really exciting topic.... YEAST (sunscreen)! But with skin cancer on the rise and the Florida sun can be a vacation ruiner, I thought the followers would appreciate our reviews. The crowds went wild... so thanks! Ha!
My husband's family is coming next week for a week long family vacation which we are so excited about! I have talked a lot with my sister-in-law about the many, many things she may need to bring for her 7 month old baby girl's first trip to the beach! All of these talks have got me thinking about what are mine and Mary's favorite accessories to have for our weekly trips to the pool, beach or out for a day on the boat. You spend so much time packing bags, snacks, the car with all of this "stuff" to ensure a good time. (Side note: I would waaaay rather prepare all of this than bundle little ones in 8 million layers of clothes, boots, etc. and then to find out they have to pee...so not complaining) But what do you really need? Hopefully some moms from vacation central can point you in the right direction to make sure you are prepared with a few essentials.
The Perfect Tote
First you have to pick the perfect receptacle for all of your goodies We love this canvas, personalized tote from Pottery Barn Kids. It is ready to hold every towel, snack, toy, and necessity for a day in the sun. OR, if you are really lucky, all packed up for an overnight at grandmas! This durable accessory will be a great staple that will be able to be used for years to come!
Future So Bright, We Need to Wear Shades
Like baby, like mommy... we gotta have options! We collect sunnies from all over the place! Of course we want our littles to look like a rockstar, but I guess they serve a health purpose too. Ha! I mean, I know they do. The reflection that comes off the pool or ocean can be damaging to their little eyes and these shades will add another layer of protection (and swag!) Each pair of sunglasses is linked here: white and black, wooden, tortoise shell, navy aviators. We love all of the cutest sunnies at Janie & Jack ,Crazy 8 and Gymboree.
The Bucket Hat Debate
OK, so we have a love/ hate relationship with the ole Gilligan floppy bucket hat. My great aunt, whom I dearly dearly loved always wore this god awful purple bucket hat every time she mowed the lawn. We made fun her about it and she always snapped back that it kept the sun out of her eyes, protected her hair, blah blah blah...the hat was so her and makes me smile when I think about it now.
However, now that we have these precious little ones, we want them to be cute, stylish, and looking the island baby part. And this dumb hat that velcros under the chin is just such a fashion faux pas!!! I just think they look so dorky, I just can't... so I have all these cute baseball/ trucker caps for the baby to wear. Buuuuuut he won't keep it on! And they don't protect his ears/ neck from the sun. And he won't keep it on. And they are usually too big. AND HE WON'T KEEP IT ON! Soooo, we are back to the bucket hat, with the velcro, looking like Gilligan whilst enjoying our time in the sun (insert eye roll). Oh well, you win some you lose some.
Shop away for our practical and "cool" hats, ha! Fedora, Navy Bucket Hat, Pineapple Cap Option, Surfer Trucker Hat, Wisconsin Hat, Nautical Bucket Hat Option.
We will keep adding some of our favorite accessories and sunshine "must haves"!
